What Are The Causes Of Bad Breath?

A Look At The Philosophy Of Yoga

For many people the word yoga conjures up something only vaguely related to the lotus position. However, it is more than just one pose; it embraces not only a physical discipline but also a philosophical basis for leading one\’s life. The word itself comes from ancient Sanskrit text and roughly translates to \”royal union, \” which is to say a proper balance between body and mind.

The ancient text that provides the foundation is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. It was written over two thousand years ago and is divided into four books. They are called the Samadhi Pada, Sadhana Pada, Vibhuti Pada, and the Kaivalya Pada. It is in the Sadhana Pada that one can discover the physical aspect of yoga.

Within the Sadhana Pada one will find the eight \”limbs.\” These steps are known as the Ashtanga yoga. The first five limbs concern external aids while the last three address internal issues. Asana is one of the five external aids, or the third limb, and refers to discipline of the body. It stresses that the body should be kept disease-free while preserving vital energy. It is the teachings found in this book of the Sutras that give rise to what most Westerners construe as yoga.

Asana is the plural of asan which means body position or posture. Its purpose is to improve flexibility, vitality, and promote meditation. Some adherents of asana believe that practicing its positions open up the energy channels and psychic centers in the body. According to asana, any position assumed should be steady and comfortable, yet firm.

As alluded to earlier, the body should not experience any discomfort when assuming any pose. There are dozens of positions that a practitioner can strike, from beginner level to advanced.

Regardless of one\’s level of expertise, there are some fundamental concepts that should be adhered to. The stomach should always be empty before commencing any exercise. The body should not experience any trembling from force or pressure. Breathing should be controlled and not erratic. Most of the exercises are not performed on a floor but rather on a mat, and at the conclusion of the session, time should be spent attaining a deep state of relaxation.

Poses can be done standing up, seated, supine, while balanced, or while the back is bent. There are a wide variety of poses and they can be classified as beginner, intermediate, or advanced level positions. Some beginner standing poses are The Downward Facing Dog, The Standing Forward Bend, and The Pyramid Pose. Seated poses such as Half Lord of the Fishes, Seated Wide Legged Straddle, and the Cobbler\’s Pose are also geared towards those just starting out.

4 Common Arm Toning Mistakes Women Make

There are too many women that are utterly lost when it comes to proper eating for losing arm fat. Are you one of them?

If this is the case, you\’re not to blame. You see, all the marketers and product pushers have created a giant ball of flabby arm confusion.

I know because I used to be completely lost.

The good news is that I\’ve spent a large portion of my professional career figuring all of this out.

So without further ado, here are 4 flabby arm pitfalls to avoid:

1. Having too much protein. Once you have more than 30% of your calories as protein, the negatives outweigh the positives. And if you take your protein intake to an extreme, your energy levels will plummet and you\’ll lose your ability to recover from exercise.

2. Eating large amounts of whole grains. Unless you\’re extremely active, this is not a good idea. While whole grains are healthier than pizza, they are not ideal for rapid arm fat loss.

3. Assuming supplementation is fine. I have some shocking news: supplements are not regulated in the U.S. There could be anything in that bottle. Just because there is some certification on the label doesn\’t mean it\’s healthy.

4. Leaving large gaps of time between meals. How much is large? More than five hours. Once you go past five hours, expect a significant decrease in metabolism. Not good for maximum arm toning. And if possible, try to eat every 3 hours. This type of eating schedule will give you the fastest results.

Avoiding the above flabby arm pitfalls will make the process of getting toned arms that much easier. Getting lean and sexy arms doesn\’t have to be that hard. In fact, with the right approach, it can be relatively easy. Don\’t fall for all the marketing hype and stick to the objective facts. Only then will you be able to get rid of those flabby arms once and for all.

Should I Workout at Home or The Gym

Sometimes getting yourself to the gym and finding time to do so is just enough to make you not want to do it. Ever think about skipping the gym and figuring out how to do it at home?

There are lots of reasons to workout at home; privacy, less spending, less time out of your day etc. The toughest part is finding the space in your house or apartment and committing to actually using it once you set up your home gym fitness equipment.

Will you actually commit to a home workout program?

Unfortunately, its tough to commit to working out no matter where you\’re doing it. There will be times when you feel addicted to working out, but after a few days off, it\’ll be hard to get going again. When you\’re really into it, you\’ll appreciate the privacy and ease of rolling out of bed and into the easy access of your home gym. You\’ll still have to commit to doing it though since proximity itself doesn\’t make it happen.

Fitness Goals

As with any big task, it\’s helpful to start by making a list of your overall goals. If your goals include getting into better shape, breaking a good sweat a few days a week and gaining some lean muscle mass, you\’ll probably be fine. Those are doable goals. If your goals are more specific, like you want to be a great swimmer, stay social in your fitness and learn a variet of new routines, you might want to stick with a commercial gym. Even though this seems like a no brainer, it\’s easy to fall into quitting the gym when you are feeling a money crunch or you feel like you\’re lacking time. When you really look at your goals and what you\’re looking to get out of it, it shows you what is realistic to do. If the social part of going to the gym is where it\’s at for you, you might get more out of a half hour on the stairmaster next to your best friend than working out alone at home. You might be a guy that enjoys some guy time at the gym and working out at home would really take that away from you.

Space & Finances

If none of this has scared you away and you\’d still like to set up a home gym, you should sit down and really make a plan for where your\’re going to put it and how much it\’ll cost to get started. Of course, a garage or spare bedroom would be ideal and if you have that, you\’re well on your way. If you don\’t have that space, could you get by with maybe just a treadmill, free weights and maybe a few workout dvds. It doesn\’t take a lot of space to get into shape. If you\’ve seen any of those prison shows on tv, you\’ll agree. Simple old school workouts work just fine. It\’s all about what it will take to get yourself to do the workout.
