Made by the company called Labo Derma in France, the Fair and White product line is internationally renowned even if most of its products are expensive or difficult to obtain. The line is tailored for the particular needs of the colored and ethnic skin types, promising benefits such as reducing blemishes while evening out the skin tone. Aside from that, the products can also decrease the number of brown spots and prevent other types of pigmentation from occurring. The most popular product from its line is the Whitening Cream that is specially formulated with the “F.A.W. Lightening” component.

Fair and White Products can contain hydroquinone as their active ingredient. The chemical has been proven effective in skin lightening although the prolonged use and exposure to this compound can also elicit a number of side effects. The brand’s whitening cream contains 1.9% concentration of hydroquinone.

There are other ingredients in the Whitening Cream of Fair and White that may cause certain risks when used for a long time. These ingredients include propylene glycol, stearic acid, and methylparaben. They are also found in other cosmetic products and with uncontrolled concentrations, they may cause unwanted side effects.

Stearic acid is a byproduct from fatty substances that are derived from pig stomachs as well as from fat coming from cows, sheep, cats and dogs. It is commonly used in cosmetics such as deodorants, creams, conditioners, hairspray, lubricants and soap among others and can cause skin irritations even when it occurs at low concentrations.

Another ingredient to be concerned about is propylene glycol, which is basically non-toxic and is also used in cosmetic products. However, it is still thought of to be a carcinogen and a skin irritant if its usage is uncontrolled.

Finally, methylparaben has also been proven to raise skin toxicity when dosage is not regulated. Citro tests administered on mammalian cells also show that the ingredient can cause cell mutation.
